(Sawmills): Although lumbering in the city and surrounding area was all but done by the turn of the century, several sawmills remained as rail lines were able to bring in logs from further out. I'll try to list the sawmills here and their dates of operation.
I recently heard of one that exitsted up until the late 1950's at the end of SW 4th. ST., before it went through to the south. They supposedly held barn dances there! Does anyone have an idea of its ownership?
